I was offered a completely different choice of courses…In Film as Lit, we watched movies and analyzed how camera angles, sound, staging, etc. enhanced the film. Honestly, I can say that I can’t watch another movie without noticing something I learned in that class.

General Information
Pittsford, a small, appealing suburb of Rochester, New York is home to two public high schools. Pittsford Mendon High and Pittsford Sutherland High each enroll about 1000 students. Each high school offers distinct Network programs and each welcomes Network exchange students. Students who need to keep up with work in subjects unrelated to their selected Network programs are encouraged to do so at the high schools.
Programs
Concentration in the Arts – (Sutherland and Mendon)
Gives students an opportunity for intensive study of painting and drawing and/or photography. Sutherland’s outstanding instructors in these areas have helped students develop skills that have allowed them to win many prizes on a local, state, and national level through the Scholastic Art Competition. Students should have had previous instruction in art and/or photography, but depending on the time period desired a beginner in photography could be accommodated.
Concentration in Business – (Sutherland and Mendon)
Students will have the opportunity to take several business/computer related courses during the day. They may choose a variety of courses, including Business Ownership and Marketing, E-Commerce, Virtual Enterprise, Multi-media Presentation, Sports Marketing, Entertainment Marketing and Accounting. Students will work closely with Sutherland’s business faculty, many of whom are recognized on state and national levels for their cutting edge business curriculum.
Concentration in Engineering or Technology – (Mendon)
Students interested in Engineering will have the opportunity to take part in “Project Lead the Way,” a national, pre-engineering educational initiative. Classes can include Design and Drawing for Production, Computer Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering/Architecture, Principles of Engineering, Engineering Design and Development, and Computer Integrated Manufacturing.
Concentration in Social Sciences – (Sutherland)
Students will have the opportunity to take a variety of classes with faculty in one of the liveliest departments within the school. Students may choose from advanced placement courses in American and European History, Government, Economics and Psychology. Other offerings include Law and Justice, Sociology, Military History and Vietnam History.
Living Arrangements and Travel
Network students live with the families of students enrolled in the high schools. Because of its proximity to urban Rochester, Pittsford offers visitors all the cultural, educational and social activities of that city, including those of several fine colleges and universities. The Town of Pittsford has been carefully zoned and restored to retain the appeal of the village that it was some 200 years ago.
*Air traveler must fly into Rochester International Airport.
