Programs
The Low Country Experience
This program offers an opportunity to experience the unique qualities of both Pinewood and the Low Country. In addition to attending classes, Network students can undertake a program of immersion in the culture and history of Summerville and the Charleston area, including plantation life of the antebellum South and the Gullah culture, the unique heritage of the enslaved peoples who worked on Southern plantations.
Teacher Cadets
Students can participate in a course designed to introduce students to the field of education by focusing on three themes: Experiencing the learner, Experiencing the profession, and Experiencing the classroom. (Fall semester only)
Music Tech
This is an introductory course in music technology application available to a modern musician. Students use digital audio processing and related technical theory to develop song writing skills, in addition to collaborating on various musical projects.
Living Arrangements and Travel
Network students will live in the homes of Pinewood families. Students should fly into Charleston International Airport, Charleston, SC, and bring spending money for extra programs and for a Panther Pass (food expenditures on campus).
Application Procedure
Students interested in visiting Pinewood should complete the Network Student Information Form and return it to the Network Advisor at their home school.
Dates
All programs are individually arranged throughout the year for students in grades 9-12. Special arrangements can be made for middle school students (grades 7 and 8), preferably with the accompaniment of a teacher. See School Calendar for vacation dates.
