Palmer High School

Colorado Springs, Colorado

My trip to Palmer High, in Colorado Springs, was a great experience. It was a shock at first to be in a much bigger school. My favorite memories are rock climbing at The Garden of the Gods, and, of course, skiing. I got to go twice, and what a difference from the Poconos in PA!!

General Information

Palmer High School is located in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs and has a diverse student body of approximately 1,800 students.  Students coming to Palmer HS have many options when considering a Network Exchange, both academic and extracurricular.

NOTE: Should a student/group wish to customize an experience in Colorado that is significantly different from the options below, please contact the Palmer Advisor far in advance.

Programs

Palmer is an excellent option for students interested in checking out a public school, visiting some colleges, matching wits in some great classes, or just getting a break from one’s home school and seeing what Colorado has to offer. Palmer HS has various academic classes to challenge any student. From top-level instruction in History and Social Sciences, to excellent Math, Science, IB, or AP classes, or maybe even a Foreign Language from a fresh perspective.  Students may follow a typical school schedule, or participate in one of the following specialized programs.

Student Government

Visiting students may participate and share ideas at Palmer as students plan events, look for ways to raise money, seek worthy causes for donations, organize student elections, or simply seek to help student/community relations improve.

Artistic Immersion

Network students are encouraged to bring their creativity to the Rocky Mountains. By bringing one’s own art, or looking for an inspiring setting to hone skills, students coming to Palmer can express themselves by being immersed in art classes. Perhaps digital media or TV production is your interest. Palmer has many classes for creative students so Network students are encouraged to share their talents and develop their skills while participating in an art-centric curriculum.

Living Arrangements and Travel

Network students live with the families of Palmer HS students. The Rocky Mountains offer visitors special sightseeing opportunities, a wide range of outdoor activities, colleges/universities to visit, and more. Visiting students should be sure to consider bus fares and extra costs in planning.

Travel must be to Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (COS). The host family or Palmer Staff will meet the student at the airport. Note: check a variety of routes through cities such as Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Phoenix, etc. They may provide cheaper fares than going through Denver.

Application Procedure

Palmer exchanges are open to students in grades 11 and 12 only.

Students should fill out the Network Student Information form and return it to the Network Advisor at their home school.

Dates

Student Government exchanges are best during the spring semester (January-May). All other opportunities are available throughout the academic year. See the School Calendar for vacation dates.
